Winter Energy, Meridians and What this season teaches us

Dec 1, 2025 | Blog

A grounded look at Winter and why I shape my monthly winter class around it:

Winter has a certain honesty to it; it strips everything back.

Theres no pretending you have endless energy, no forcing yourself into summer mode when your body is quietly saying slow down.

In traditional Chinese medicine, winter belongs to the water element and its two meridians, the Kidneys and Bladder which both run the show during this time, in a deep foundational way.

These meridians are connected to

  • Energy reserves
  • Courage and adaptability
  • Fear, overwhelm and burnout
  • The back line of the body, hips and inner legs
  • The ability to let go instead of holding tension

When they are depleted, you feel it, when they are supported, everything steadies.

That’s why winter can hold a message in its season.

Why I pay attention to it and you might too

The older I get the more I realise the body isn’t just tired and weak, its responding to your life,

Your pace,

Your stress,

Your emotional load,

The way you carry yourself through the year.

At 50 I’m much more tuned into this. My strength matters, but so does my inner landscape – how settled I feel, whether I’m rushing or actually listening.

And the winter meridians have a lot to say –

They ask for stillness,

They ask for warmth,

They ask you to rebuild from the inside out rather than pushing through.

This is exactly why my class shifts into focus during winter.

How I build winter energy into my Tap and Yin class

I don’t try to change winters nature – I work with it.

We start with grounding, feet, calves, pressure points, and gentle tapping to quiet the mental noise.

Then Yin shapes that nourish the kidney and bladder meridians:

The back line of the body, hips, hamstrings, inner legs.

Nothing forced.

It’s not about flexibility – it’s about resilience.

Rebounds become little pockets of integration. Those few minutes where your system reorganises itself. People underestimate how powerful those moments are, these are the magic moments where we notice subtle shifts in our bodies or minds, never forcing, just noticing.

And we end in stillness.

Not the zone out kind – the come back to yourself kind.

A class built for winter energy feels different, you feel steadier, clearer, more rooted not drained.

What winter is asking from all of us

This season teaches ….

  • Slow down so you can rebuild
  • Nourish rather than deplete
  • Listen to your internal world
  • Strengthen your boundaries
  • Let go of what isn’t yours to carry

Its subtle work but important work. Most women don’t get space like this anywhere else.

If you’re wanting a monthly pause, one hour where your body and mind aren’t being pulled in 10 different directions – this class is built for that.

Tap and Yin the monthly self-care class is now open to booking and is a space designed exclusively for women, I so look forward to sharing the practice with you.
